Self-Compassion for Parents
Course overview

Inside this course

Self-criticism is often the last strategy parents are willing to give up, because it feels like the thing keeping standards high. The evidence points the other way: harsh self-judgment increases avoidance, reactivity and depletion, while self-compassion supports accountability and change. This course explores guilt, shame, perfectionism and comparison, and builds a kinder internal voice that makes you more capable, not less.

Learning outcomes

You'll finish with

  • Distinguish guilt from shame and use each accurately
  • Understand why self-criticism does not produce lasting change
  • Practise self-compassion without self-excusing

You are unlikely to eliminate the inner critic, and you do not need to. You need it to stop being the loudest and most trusted voice in the room.
