Understanding Trauma Behaviours
Reading the function underneath a child's most difficult behaviours, telling 'will not' apart from 'cannot right now', and responding in ways that build capacity instead of shame.

Inside this course
Every parent of a child who has been through something hard eventually meets a behaviour that does not seem to fit the moment — a slammed door over a shoelace, a sudden retreat into silence, a need to control the smallest detail of a plan, an outburst that arrives faster than the trigger seems to justify. It is easy, and understandable, to read these moments as defiance, manipulation, or a character flaw that needs correcting. This course offers a different and more accurate lens: behaviour, especially in a child recovering from adverse or frightening experiences, is communication from a nervous system doing its best to keep itself safe, using strategies it learned when safety could not be taken for granted.
You'll finish with
- Understand behaviour as communication from a nervous system organised around safety, not as a character judgement
- Read the likely protective function underneath anger, withdrawal, control, perfectionism, avoidance, aggression, clinginess and people-pleasing
- Distinguish a child who will not comply from a child who cannot access flexible thinking in that moment
