Emotional Intelligence & Empathy
What emotional intelligence actually consists of, how empathy really develops, and how a household's emotional culture teaches more than any lesson can.

Inside this course
Emotional intelligence is often talked about as though it were a single trait a child either has or lacks — 'good with feelings' or not. In reality it is a set of distinct, learnable capacities: noticing an internal state, naming it with some accuracy, regulating its intensity, reading what is happening in someone else, and choosing a response rather than simply reacting. Each of these develops on its own timeline, unevenly, and often out of step with a child's age in other areas.
You'll finish with
- Break emotional intelligence into its component capacities rather than treating it as one fixed trait
- Understand the developmental stages of empathy and why it is normal for empathy to appear uneven or inconsistent in childhood and adolescence
- Distinguish empathy, sympathy and people-pleasing, and recognise the different long-term effects of each
