About this pathway

Written by a therapist, for families in transition

Every child experiences adversity differently. Whether a child has experienced grief, family separation, bullying, illness, accidents, community violence, medical trauma, abuse, neglect or other overwhelming life events, healing is possible when children are supported by safe, caring and emotionally responsive adults. This therapist-created pathway helps parents understand how difficult experiences affect children's developing brains, emotions, relationships and behaviour, while providing practical, trauma-informed strategies that promote healing, resilience and hope. Parents will learn how to recognise trauma responses, rebuild emotional safety, strengthen secure relationships and confidently support their child's recovery without increasing shame, fear or overwhelm. Throughout this pathway, the emphasis remains on connection, compassion, resilience and recovery rather than fear.

  • Understand how difficult experiences can affect a developing brain and body
  • Recognise trauma responses without labelling or pathologising your child
  • Rebuild emotional and physical safety at home
  • Respond to big behaviours with confidence and compassion
  • Support recovery through grief, separation, illness and frightening events
  • Know when assessment or professional therapeutic support may be appropriate
